As VR becomes mainstream it is going to make a huge impact on media and the arts. A really interesting expansion of VR is how it would work for artists.
In 2016 Google launched the Tilt Brush app, a virtual reality painting application. The app allows designers to create 3D imagery and walk through their sketches as they draw them.
Oculus Rift has also developed software aimed at artists and designers. Oculus Medium is an "immersive VR experience that lets you sculpt, model, paint, and create tangible objects in a VR environment." Medium uses touch controllers for ease and to gain natural movement from the user. Oculus Quill is a VR tool that introduces the concept of the 'infinite canvas' and allows sketches to come to life. This technology could also revive an interest in 3D printing as the VR designs can be exported in to .obj ready to be sent for fabrication on a 3D printer.
Although there is still a long way to go within the ability of the software compared to design programmes such as Photoshop and Illustrator; it is an exciting expansion for the design world, and we certainly want to give it a try!
